It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Downpatrick's 1st XI in the Ulster Bank Senior League Section 1, with one victory and one defeat recorded at the Meadow. Saturday afternoon saw the return fixture against Millpark, who Downpatrick had comfortably defeated by 154 runs the previous weekend.
James Magowan won the toss and decided to put the visitors in to bat first. This proved to be a successful decision as Millpark were bowled out for just 58 runs. Magowan bowled a highly impressive opening spell, despite a recent back injury, and finished with figures of 5-22. Fellow opening bowler Justin Rea also contributed with an impressive 3-15.
Downpatrick reached the required total comfortably, losing just two wickets in the process. Ben McIlroy (31*) and Justin Rea (12*) scoring the bulk of the runs for the Strangford Road men in a straightforward victory.
The Meadow was again the venue for Sunday afternoon's league fixture between Downpatrick and Derriaghy. This was the 3rd time that the match had been rearranged due to weather. As a result, under NCU rules, the match was to be contested as a 20/20 match.
Derriaghy set a highly impressive total of 202 from their 20 overs. Downpatrick reached a total of 45-4 from 8 overs of batting before the rain arrived once again, ceasing play for the remainder of the afternoon. This meant that, under Duckworth Lewis rules, Downpatrick lost the match by 55 runs.
Downpatrick will be looking to bounce back with a victory away to Donaghcloney next Saturday before they face Saintfield in the semi-final of the Ulster Shield next Sunday.
