Downpatrick's 3rd XI faced off against Instonians IV's at the Meadow on Sunday afternoon in the league which took the form of a Twenty/20 match. Skipper Trevor Lennon won the toss, and opted to bat.
This proved to be a wise decision, with Downpatrick scoring 152 runs off the allotted 20 overs. Pivotal scores came from Richard McIlheron (19), Thomas Boyd (22) and Carl Mullan (46 n/o).
In response, Instonians fell 15 runs short of the target. A strong bowling and fielding performance from the Downpatrick team ensured victory. Best bowling figures for Downpatrick came from Jordan Wade (3-7) and Mark Graham (1-19).
This proved to be a strong showing from Trevor Lennon's men, who now move into 3rd place in the NCU Junior Section 8 table. Next Sunday sees the 3rds play host to Bangor V.
