Saturday was a fixture free day as a result of the International match being played at Stormont between Ireland and Pakistan but Downpatrick 2nd XI played their Intermediate Cup match on Sunday away to Derriaghy 2nd XI.
Downpatrick won the toss and elected to bat and accumulated a formidable total of 246 after their allotted 40 overs with the best performances coming from Aaron Ferris (68), Jeremy McCready (56), Jamie Thompson (25) & Michael Carson (25). In reply Derriaghy only managed to score 104 to lose by 142 runs. The Downpatrick fielding was excellent and best bowling performances came from Phillip Lennon (5 – 20) and Justin Rea (2 – 12).
During the week Downpatrick U15’s lost out to North Down U15’s in a league game going down by 7 wickets.
On Friday night, club professional Muhammad Farrukh was star of the show in a charity match at North Down involving most of the NCU top professionals. Fez took 5 wickets (including the prized scalp of Waringstown professional Obus Pienaar, who has been the scouge of NCU bowlers so far this season) and scored 36 runs.
This week sees fixtures for 1st XI on Wenesday evening (20/20 at home to Lisburn) and Saturday away to CSNI in the Challenge Cup, also on Wednesday the mid-week team travel to Donaghadee and on Friday the U13’s are away to North Down in the 2nd round of the Banoge Cup and on Saturday the 3rd XI are at home to Bangor in the league.
