Downpatrick Cricket Club Professional - Jancan Adams
Jancan Adams (23) is a genuine all-rounder who bats top order and bowls seam-up, most recently playing for Tygerberg 1st XI in his native South Africa. Adams has been a prominent figure in the Tygerberg 1st XI since his introduction as a 17-year-old in 2007/08.
He has scored over 2,000 runs and taken 100 plus wickets since, with his 2011/12 season netting 520 runs at 30.58 and 30 wickets at 23.03. The previous season was equally impressive, hitting a highest score of 150* amongst 620 runs at 34.44 and 23 scalps at 24.34.
Adams has been a Western Province squad member throughout the age-groups and has recently gain selection for the Western Province Academy and first-class squad (albeit, has yet to play).
He has spent two previous summers playing in Europe, firstly in 2010 for Den Haag in Holland’s second tier club competition (530 runs at 58.55 plus 22 wickets at 12) and then in 2012 for Northamptonshire League Division 1 side Geddington (488 runs at 34.86 and 16 wickets at 20.31).
Adams has enjoyed two successful overseas stints and is now looking forward to his third as the new professional at Downpatrick Cricket Club. Jancan will fit in immediately with the youthful but highly talented senior squad that has been assembled at the Strangford Road, and will no doubt play a pivotal role as Downpatrick seek promotion back to the NCU Premier League.
