3rd XI Top of the Table After Win Over CIYMS

Downpatrick III's were in action at the Meadow on Sunday afternoon, facing off against league leaders CIYMS IV. Downpatrick lost the toss, and bowled first.

Some determined CIYMS batting saw them reach 50-0 from just 8 overs. Jordan Wade took the first wicket for Downpatrick soon after. This seemed to give the home side a confidence boost, as Downpatrick's bowling attack began to claim wickets with accurate bowling. James Ferguson (2-21) and Thomas Magowan (2-25) impressed with the ball for Downpatrick, as CIYMS finished on 124-6 from their 25 overs.

In response, Downpatrick lost an early wicket, with Carl Mullan being clean bowled for a duck with just the fourth delivery of the innings. This brought Gareth Rea to the crease, where he and Pete Bell put on a brisk 25 runs before Bell was bowled for 12.

Rea was joined in the middle by Chris Martin, and the pair forged a strong batting partnership to push Downpatrick towards victory. Rea scored a quick-fire 41 before being caught at long on. Davy Moreland was trapped LBW for a duck, before Neil Reilly joined Martin in the middle to take Downpatrick to the allotted total in just 14 overs. Martin finished unbeaten with a fine 43, and Reilly finished on 14 not out.

This victory takes the Strangford Road men to top spot in the league, with two games in hand over their nearest rivals.
